Tomato chutney is so easy to make, you can just change the taste a bit by altering the proportions of onion and tomato. I have not tempered the chutney towards the end, but just to make it more flavorsome you can temper with mustard seeds, dry red chilies and curry leaves. but there is really no need, as the chutney tastes good even without tempering.
- Tomato– 3
- Onion – 2
- Green chilly – 2
- Curry leaves – 1 sprig
- Chilly powder – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Mustard seeds
- Salt as required
Heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once it completes spluttering add onion into it.
Add the chopped onions and saute till they are softened then add chopped green chilly and curry leaves.
After sometime when it cooks add tomatoes. Stir and saute till the tomatoes have softened and cooked.
Ensure that no raw aroma is left
Then add chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt . Cook it for a minute. Then keepthe chutney mixture become cool. later add in a chutney grinder or a blender jar. You can grind it without adding water or if you are preferring even smooth consistency then add a tbsp water.
Serve the chutney with Dosa Idli or Vada
